These terms explain how gift orders and activation cards work.
1.What a gift order is
A gift order is a physical BuildTags that you buy for someone else. You do not need to know their vehicle or give us their details. The tag comes with a private activation card. The recipient uses the card to claim the tag, create their own build and connect the tag to it. Until then the tag is "unclaimed".
2.Placing a gift order
You can order without an account. You enter your email, the delivery address, and optionally a recipient name, your name and a short message for the card. Check the spelling of everything you type: it is printed as you approved it.
Your order is a custom product. The Refund & Replacement Policy, Shipping & Delivery Policy and our Terms of Service apply to gift orders in the same way as to any other order.
The recipient name, your name and the message are printed on or with the activation card and are visible to whoever holds it. Do not put anything private in them.
3.What the buyer can see
After payment you get a confirmation email with a private link to your order page. If you ordered with an account, you also find the order in your account. The order page shows the status of the order and, for each tag, whether it is not claimed yet, claimed (and when), or inactive.
You do not see the recipient's build, name or vehicle once they claim it. Claiming a tag does not give the buyer any access to it.
Keep your order link private. Anyone who has it can see the order page.
4.The private activation card
The card ships in the package with the tag. Whoever holds the card can claim the tag, so give it only to the person it is for. Scanning the QR code on the tag itself never claims it and never gives anyone control.
If the card is lost, or you want to hand it over yourself, a signed-in buyer can make a new card from the order page. A new card makes any earlier card for that tag, including the one in the package, stop working at once. A buyer who ordered without an account can create an account with the same email address to move the order across, then make a new card.
5.How the recipient claims it
The recipient scans the card, signs in or creates an account, agrees to confirm they are authorized to claim the profile, and connects the tag to their own vehicle. Creating an account means agreeing to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
A claim means control of the digital profile on BuildTags. It is not proof of who owns the vehicle. We may investigate, delay, deny or reverse a claim when there is reasonable evidence of fraud, a mistake, or a conflict.
6.If the tag is never claimed
An unclaimed tag stays reserved and its address stays valid. If someone scans an unclaimed tag, they see a page saying it has not been claimed yet.
Activation cards and unclaimed gift tags do not currently expire. A gift tag is a custom product, so we do not currently offer a refund after delivery only because the recipient does not want it, except where the law requires otherwise. The Refund & Replacement Policy applies if the tag is defective, damaged or wrong.
7.Transfers
After a tag is claimed, the new owner controls the profile. If the vehicle later changes hands, the owner can start a transfer using a private link. See the transfer section of our Terms of Service.
8.Problems with a gift
If the tag is defective, wrong or damaged in shipping, report it within 30 days of delivery as described in the Refund & Replacement Policy. The recipient can also contact us at customersupport@buildtags.app; please include the order number if you have it. If we cannot agree, see the governing law section of the Terms of Service. Nothing here limits rights you have under law that cannot be waived.
